Step-by-step student guide to PlacePrep: create an account, practice company questions and BEU PYQs, join exams with a code and read your results.

Student Guide

This guide covers all features available to students on the R's PlacePrep platform.

Account Creation

Registration

  1. Navigate to the signup page
  2. Provide the following information:
    • Full name
    • Email address (must be unique)
    • Password (minimum 8 characters) and confirmation
    • University — BEU or Others
    • Registration number
    • College name — auto-filled from your registration number for BEU, typed manually for other universities
    • Branch
  3. Submit the registration form
  4. You will be automatically logged in after successful registration

You can also sign up with Google. In that case you'll be sent to a Complete Profile page to fill in your university, registration number, college, and branch.

BEU registration numbers: students use 11–12 digits; admins use 9 digits followed by 3 letters. Your college is detected from digits 6–8 of your registration number. If the code isn't recognised, your college is recorded as "Other".

  1. Navigate to the login page
  2. Enter your registered email and password
  3. Solve the math CAPTCHA shown below the password field
  4. Click "Login" to access your dashboard

Google sign-in is also available on the login page.

Forgot Password

Click Forgot password? on the login page, enter your email, and follow the link sent to your inbox to set a new password.

Practice Mode

Practice mode allows you to study questions without time pressure.

Accessing Company Questions

  1. Navigate to "Companies" from the navigation bar or your dashboard
  2. Select a company (e.g., TCS, Infosys, Accenture)
  3. Choose an exam pattern or topic folder
  4. Browse questions organized by sections

A guided Practice session is also available on each company page. It shows one question at a time with Previous/Next navigation and a "Check Answers" summary at the end. Practice sessions are not scored or timed, and require you to be signed in.

Accessing University PYQs

  1. Navigate to "PYQ" from the main navigation
  2. Select your branch
  3. Choose the semester
  4. Pick the subject
  5. Select the year
  6. Browse questions organized by paper sections

More branches are added once I (Rohan Sharma) get some hands.

PYQ Features

  • View Modes: Switch between "Full View" (questions + answers) and "Questions Only" mode
  • Section Navigation: Jump between MCQ sections, Part A, Part B, etc.
  • Year Selector: Quickly switch between different years' papers
  • Subject Dropdown: Change subjects within the same semester
  • Answer Highlighting: Answers and solutions are highlighted for easy identification
  • Export: Download papers as PDF or Word — choose between "Questions Only" and "Full Paper". You must be signed in to export.

Practice Features

  • Display Mode: Switch between "Full View" (questions, solutions, and complexity) and "Questions Only"
  • Answer Display: Show or hide the answer on each question individually
  • Topic Navigation: Jump between different topics and sections
  • No Time Limit: Study at your own pace
  • Unlimited Access: Review questions as many times as needed

Taking Exams

Exam Entry

Exams are not listed publicly — you join one with an exam code given to you by your admin.

  1. Click Join Exam on your dashboard, or go to /exam/enter
  2. Enter the exam code (format xxx-xxx-xxx) — hyphens are added automatically as you type
  3. Enter your email
    • If you already have an account, enter your password to sign in
    • If you don't, a signup form appears inline with your email pre-filled
  4. If the exam is restricted to specific colleges and your profile doesn't have college details yet, you'll be asked for your university, registration number, college, and branch
  5. Read the instructions page (exam name, duration, total questions, total marks) and tick the agreement checkbox
  6. Click Start Exam to begin

One attempt only. Each student can attempt an exam once. If you leave mid-exam and come back, your attempt resumes with the remaining time — it does not restart.

During the Exam

Interface Overview

  • Timer: Displays remaining time in the top-right corner
  • Question Navigator: Shows all questions with status indicators
    • Unanswered: Default state
    • Answered: Marked in green
    • Current: Highlighted question
  • Navigation Buttons:
    • Previous: Go to the previous question
    • Next: Move to the next question
    • Submit: End the exam (when enabled)

Question Status

Questions are automatically marked based on your actions:

  • Unanswered: Questions you haven't attempted
  • Answered: Questions where you've selected an answer

Fullscreen Mode and Tab Switching

If the exam enforces fullscreen mode:

  • The exam automatically enters fullscreen when started
  • Exiting fullscreen the first time shows a warning overlay with a button to re-enter — the timer keeps running
  • Exiting fullscreen a second time auto-submits your exam
  • Switching to another tab or window is also detected. The first switch shows a warning banner; the second switch auto-submits your exam
  • F11 and Esc are blocked while you're in fullscreen

If your browser doesn't support the Fullscreen API (for example, Safari on iPhone), enforcement is skipped rather than repeatedly failing.

Navigation

You can navigate through questions in multiple ways:

  1. Use the "Previous" and "Next" buttons
  2. Click on question numbers in the navigator
  3. Questions can be accessed in any order

Coding Questions

For exams containing coding questions, a code editor is provided:

Code Editor Features

  • Language Selection: Pick your language from the dropdown (unless the admin locked the question to one language)
  • Syntax Highlighting: Code is automatically highlighted for readability
  • Line Numbers: Each line is numbered for easy reference
  • Auto-indentation: Proper indentation is maintained as you type

Supported Languages

Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, C++, C, C#, Go, Rust, PHP, Ruby, Swift, Kotlin, and SQL. Python is selected by default.

Best Practices for Coding Questions

  1. Read the problem carefully: Understand input/output requirements
  2. Plan before coding: Think through your approach
  3. Test edge cases: Consider boundary conditions
  4. Clean code: Write readable code
  5. Keep working in the editor: Your answer is kept with the rest of your attempt

Note: There is no "Run" button and no test cases — code is not executed. Coding answers are evaluated after the exam, either manually by an administrator or with AI assistance. If you leave a coding question effectively empty (roughly 30 characters or fewer once comments and whitespace are ignored), it is treated as unattempted and scored zero without going to the evaluation queue.

Submitting the Exam

Early Submission

If allowed by the administrator:

  1. Click the "Submit Exam" button
  2. Review the submission summary showing:
    • Total questions
    • Answered questions
    • Unanswered questions
  3. Confirm submission
  4. View your results immediately

Automatic Submission

The exam auto-submits when:

  • Time runs out
  • Fullscreen violations exceed the limit (if enforced)
  • The exam end time is reached

After Submission

Results Page

After submission, you'll see:

  • Total Score: Points earned out of total possible points
  • Percentage: Your score as a percentage
  • Rank: Your position among all participants, shown only if the admin enabled ranking for that exam
  • Question Breakdown: How many questions you got correct, incorrect, and skipped
  • Accuracy: Percentage of your attempted questions that were correct

If the exam contains coding questions you attempted, the page shows a "Pending Evaluation" notice instead of a final score until an administrator evaluates them.

The exam automatically exits fullscreen mode upon successful submission.

Reviewing Your Answers

After your exam is evaluated, you can review your detailed answers:

  1. Click "Review Answers" on the results page
  2. View each question with:
    • Your submitted answer
    • The correct answer
    • Marks awarded
    • Evaluator feedback, including AI feedback when the question was evaluated with AI assistance
  3. For coding questions, your submitted code is displayed alongside the feedback

Providing Feedback

After completing an exam, you can share your experience:

  1. Click "Give Feedback" on the results page
  2. Rate the exam on:
    • Overall experience (1–5)
    • Content quality (1–5)
    • Difficulty level
    • Time allocation
  3. Report any technical issues you faced and add optional suggestions
  4. Submit your feedback

Note: Feedback is intended to be submitted once per exam.

Review Requests

If you believe your exam was not evaluated correctly, you can request a review:

Request Guidelines

  • You can request a review up to 2 times per exam attempt
  • Once you've used both requests, no further reviews can be requested
  • Each request must include a detailed message explaining your concern

How to Request a Review

  1. Go to your dashboard
  2. Find the exam in "Recent Exams"
  3. Click "Request Review" (only visible for evaluated exams)
  4. Provide a detailed message (minimum 10 characters) explaining:
    • Which question(s) you want reviewed
    • Why you believe the evaluation was incorrect
  5. Submit your request

Review Statuses

StatusMeaning
EvaluatedYour exam has been graded and results are final
Review RequestedYour review request is pending admin action
Request DiscardedAdmin reviewed your request but found it invalid
PendingExam contains coding questions awaiting manual evaluation

After a Review Request

  • If approved: The admin will re-evaluate your submission and update your score
  • If discarded: You'll see "Request Discarded" status; you can still request another review if you have remaining requests
  • Review count: Even if your request is discarded, it counts toward your 2-request limit

Note: Use review requests responsibly. Provide specific, valid concerns to help administrators address your case efficiently.

Result Lookup

The Result feature is a shortcut to your official BEU (Bihar Engineering University) results. Instead of navigating the university portal and re-entering your details, PlacePrep finds the published exams for your batch and opens the correct result page for you.

Setting Up

  1. Navigate to Result from the dashboard navigation
  2. If your profile doesn't have one yet, enter your University Registration Number
  3. Your registration number is saved to your profile for future use

Viewing Results

Once your registration number is linked:

  1. The page lists the published BEU exams available for your batch
  2. Click an exam — the official BEU result page for that exam opens in a new tab

Important Notes

  • PlacePrep does not store or display your marks; it only links you to the official BEU result page
  • If no exams are listed, BEU has not published results for your batch yet
  • If the BEU server is temporarily unavailable, try again later
  • You can update your registration number from the result page if needed
  • This feature is only useful for BEU students

Placements

The TNP (Training and Placement) section helps you stay updated with placement opportunities posted by your college's TNP cell or by the super admin.

Accessing TNP Posts

  1. Click "Placements" in the dashboard navigation (available on both desktop and mobile)
  2. You will see a list of active placement posts that are relevant to your college, branch, and year
  3. Use the Tabs to switch between:
    • Active — currently open placements you can apply to
    • Applied — placements you've already applied to
    • Past — expired or completed placements
  4. Use the Year Filter to show posts for a specific year (e.g., 4th Year, 3rd Year)

You need a locked TNP profile before placement posts load.

What You Can See

Each placement post includes:

  • Company Name — the company that is hiring
  • Role Offered — the job role or position (if mentioned)
  • Package (LPA) — the salary offered, in Lakhs Per Annum (if mentioned)
  • Deadline — the last date to apply
  • Eligible Branches — the branches that can apply
  • Eligible Years — the years that can apply (e.g., 4th Year, 3rd Year)
  • Apply Link — a direct link to apply (Google Form, external website, or other)
  • Attachments — any supporting documents uploaded by the admin (e.g., job description PDF)

How to Apply

There are two ways a placement may accept applications:

1. External Link / Google Form

  • The post has an apply link (Google Form or external website)
  • Click the "Apply" button to open the link in a new tab
  • After filling the form, click "I've Applied" in the drawer to track your application on the platform

2. Direct Apply (TNP Profile)

  • Some placements allow you to apply directly using your TNP Profile
  • These posts show an "Apply Directly" button instead of an external link
  • Clicking this button immediately submits your application — no external form needed
  • Requirement: You must have a completed and submitted (locked) TNP Profile to use direct apply
  • If your profile is missing or not locked, you'll be prompted to fill it first

Post Visibility

  • You will only see posts that are targeted to your college (or to all colleges)
  • You will only see posts that include your branch in the eligible branches list
  • You will only see posts that include your current year. Your year is derived from your session — after 1 July of your session's final year you are treated as a Passout and only see posts open to passouts
  • Posts past their deadline are shown separately under the "Past" tab

Application Tracking

  • Once you apply, the post is moved to your "Applied" tab
  • You can see the status of your application (Applied, Submitted, etc.)

Note: The TNP section is only available for logged-in students. Make sure you are signed in to see placement posts.

TNP Profile

Your TNP Profile is a detailed placement form that stores all your personal, academic, and document information in one place. When a placement uses Direct Apply, your TNP Profile data is shared with the admin automatically.

Accessing Your TNP Profile

  1. Go to Dashboard → TNP Profile from the sidebar or the dashboard card
  2. If you haven't created a profile yet, click "Create Profile"
  3. If you already have a profile, you can view and edit it (unless it is locked)

How It Works

  1. Fill the form with all your details (see table below)
  2. Upload your photo and resume
  3. Submit the form — your profile is automatically locked after submission
  4. Once locked, you cannot edit your profile unless an admin unlocks it
  5. Your locked profile can then be used for Direct Apply on placement posts
