This Privacy Policy explains how R's PlacePrep ("PlacePrep", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our website at placeprep.app and related services (the "Platform").

PlacePrep is a free placement preparation and online examination platform for engineering students. It is currently an independent, non-commercial project and is not registered as a company or legal entity. As the Platform grows, our operating structure and this policy may change. When that happens, we will update this page and revise the "Last updated" date. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.

Who we are

PlacePrep is built and maintained by Rohan Sharma. Since we are not a registered organization, references to "we" refer to the individuals operating the Platform. If we register as a legal entity in the future, this section will be updated with the entity details.

Information we collect

We only collect what we need to run the Platform.

Account information

When you create an account (by email/password or Google sign-in), we collect your:

• Name
• Email address
• Password (stored securely and hashed by our authentication provider — we never see it)
• University, college name/code, branch, and registration number

Placement (T&P) profile

If you choose to build a Training & Placement (T&P) profile to apply for placement opportunities, we collect additional details that you voluntarily provide, which may include:

• Personal details: gender, date of birth, religion, contact number, WhatsApp number, alternate contact number, and relocation preference
• Government identifier: Aadhaar number (only if you enter it)
• Academic records: 10th, 12th, diploma, and current CGPA / semester-wise GPA, backlogs, and admission type
• Uploaded documents: your photo and resume

Some of this is sensitive personal data. You control whether to provide it. A T&P profile is optional and is only needed if you want to apply directly to placement posts.

Exam and usage data

• Your exam attempts, answers, scores, and performance analytics
• Basic technical data such as device/browser information and approximate location derived from your IP address (used for security and analytics)

How we use your information

We use your information to:

• Create and manage your account and authenticate you
• Provide practice materials, mock exams, results, and analytics
• Let you apply to placement opportunities via your T&P profile
• Send essential emails such as account and welcome messages
• Keep the Platform secure and prevent abuse
• Improve features and understand how the Platform is used

We do not sell your personal data.

AI features

Some features use AI to evaluate coding answers or generate exam content. When you use these features, your submission and the related question content may be sent to third-party AI providers (currently Groq and Google Gemini) for processing. We do not send your name, contact details, or Aadhaar number to these providers.

Third-party services we use

We rely on trusted service providers to operate the Platform. Each processes only the data needed for its function:

• Appwrite — authentication, database, and file storage (stores your account, profile, and uploaded documents)
• Resend — sending transactional emails
• Sentry — error monitoring and diagnostics (may capture limited session information; text is masked and media is blocked)
• PostHog and Vercel Analytics — product and web analytics
• Arcjet — security, bot detection, and rate limiting (uses your IP address)
• Permit.io — access-control and permission checks
• Google — Google sign-in (OAuth)
• Vercel — hosting

These providers have their own privacy practices. We share data with them only to provide the Platform.

Data retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Platform. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time — see Data Deletion.

Your rights

You may:

• Access and update your profile information from your account
• Request a copy of your data
• Request deletion of your account and data
• Withdraw optional information (such as your T&P profile) at any time

Data security

We use reasonable technical measures — including secure authentication, encrypted sessions, and access controls — to protect your data. However, no online service can guarantee absolute security.

Children's privacy

The Platform is intended for college and university students. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Data protection and jurisdiction

The Platform is operated from India and is intended primarily for users in India. We aim to follow the principles of India's Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023. As the Platform grows and if it is formally registered, we may adopt additional compliance measures.

Changes to this policy

Because PlacePrep is evolving, this policy may change over time — especially if we register as a legal entity, add features, or change service providers. We will post any changes here and update the date at the top.
