Percentage
Problem
In an exam, a student scored 60% marks and failed by 12 marks. Another student scored 75% marks and got 18 marks more than the passing marks. Find the maximum marks.
Solution
Let maximum marks = M and passing marks = P
60% of M + 12 = P → 0.6M + 12 = P
75% of M - 18 = P → 0.75M - 18 = P
Equating:
0.6M + 12 = 0.75M - 18
30 = 0.15M
M = 200
